Also this year World Wide Webserie is partner with the oldest German digital series festival, Die Seriale. We’ll be in Giessen from June 8th to 10th 2018 and we’ll tell you everything from there. But before, here some info about Die Seriale 4th edition!
Die Seriale was founded in 2015 by Dennis Albrecht and Csongor Dobrotka with a well defined aim: creating a place for the German authors in order to bring their digital series out of the Web, beyond the screens. Last year, in occasion of its 3rd edition, the festival went international for the first time and it was such a success that it remains worldwide also this year. And we have the feeling that it will be great also this time.
In all these editions, Die Seriale (as the other two German festival, the Webfest Berlin and the Wendie Webfest Hamburg) has cleared its main focus, giving its attention on the “indie” nature of the digital series. As a matter of fact that, except for some series with huge budgets, most of the online series are created setting up the whole work on a low-budget philosophy, but luckily this aspect isn’t a negative one and it’s well supported by festivals like Die Seriale.
Moreover, the festival of Giessen, usually creates a really rich program, in which everyone has the possibility to compare himself with others, to learn and to discover new aspects of this web series world. And to all this is naturally connected another important aspect of Die Seriale: the networking aim. For the organizers of the event is really important to create the opportunity for creators to confront to each other and make good contacts. And if you take a look at the program here below, you’ll see that they are rocking this aim!
Die Seriale will be on stage from June 8th to 10th 2018 and there are 56 series from 6 continents which are going to compete for 19 awards (Best Series, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Original Score, Best Sound Design, Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Original Song, Best Animation/Puppetry, Best Documentary, two Special Jury Awards) and 8 pilots, new entries of this edition that are going to “fight” for the Best Pilot award. And this year there will also be an Audience Award.
Also this year, the program is divided in Educational Day, Independent Day and Business Day. Here below some details:
- Friday, June 8th – Educational Day: this occasion offers “lectures and discussions that intend to bring together film and media scholars with creators”. This year the analyzed topic will be “How did the web series world develop in the past two decades? Where are we standing now and what is changing? What are the up-and-coming ideas and formats? And how do we look at web series from a film- and media-theoretical perspective?”. So, if you are into web series like us, you can’t miss it!
- Saturday, June 9th – Independent Day: starting from the title of the day, it’s clear that it is dedicated to independent series production. “Creators, festival directors, and producers will talk about all aspects of short form digital series making: the focus is on funding, production, distribution, and, most importantly, aesthetics, style, and artistic visions”.
- Sunday, June 10th – Business Day: and on Sunday, it’s Business Day time! This is a great opportunity that offers “a business platform for the web series industry”. Business Day will be also occasion for discuss the various possibilities for distribution and production and there will be also the presentation of some brand-new project ideas.
